Here is the marker that W. T. Hearne erected in 1895 near the old church. James writes:
"...pictures taken of the old church where Wm. T. Hearne, the author, placed a monument across the road indicating the location of his ancestor, Ebenezer Hearne. The church which in 1973 supposedly had the old phews in there was opened to the public once a year to visitors. Now it appears to be in use as a home, since there has been a picket fence installed around the church and there are curtains and shades at the windows."The monument William T. Hearne installed across the road is still in good shape but the ground around it is continuing to erode away as you can see by the picture. I am afraid in a few more years it will tumble over."

I am trying to determine if my line is descended from WILLIAM HEARNE THE MERCHANT. I have already taken a y-chromosome DNA test.I will pay for any male-line descendant of WILLIAM HEARNE THE MERCHANT to take the same test. It is just a simple cheek swab. It will take you about 4 minutes at ZERO cost to you. No blood sample. The results will show only if you and I are related and if so, when our common ancestor lived. It will not show anything else. If we match, than I know I am descended from the Merchant. That is what I am trying to determine. You must be a male with the name HEARNE or HEARN (or variation) and believe yourself to be a direct line descendant of WILLIAM HEARNE THE MERCHANT.
